Writing is one the basic tasks of the teaching of the Chinese. It is also one of the focuses of the whole society. Currently, the main problems of writing of the technical secondary students of Lanzhou include the inanition of content, rigidity of form, vagueness of arrangement, disorganization of structure, deflection of topic, and illogicality of sentence. These problems have not been solved thoroughly for years. The ability of the writing of the students is weak, especially the writing of the technical essays. This has restrained the development of the competence of the students. It is one of the important factors that affect the students to obtain employment. In this paper, by using the survey method and observation method, the ability of writing of the technical secondary students of Lanzhou is investigated, the existing problems are presented, the reasons for the problems are analyzed, and the corresponding countermeasures are proposed.The results of the investigation have shown that the ability of the writing of the over all students are in low level and there are differences in the ability between the students from urban and rural areas. The main problems are as follows. The main idea of the essay is not clear, the content is inane, the expressions are not accurate and consistent, the sentences have solecism, and the structure is not complete and clear.The factors for the above problems include: 1) Factor of teaching. The teaching methods are outdated. The cognition of writing of teachers is not sufficient. The instruction of teachers are also not enough; 2) No-intelligent factors. The students are lack interests in Chinese, not active in study, and absence of mind in classes, 3) Factors of environment. The students do not get enough instruction in assignments. And the schools are lack of good writing environment.Based on the above situations, the author proposed the following countermeasures for teaching of writing: pay more attentions to instructions of education process in writing, cultivate the interests of students in writing, especially in the writing of technical essays, train the skills of writing and thinking, give more instructions in assignments, give more teaching in applicable article, and change the ideas of schools and parents about writing.
