Since Halliday proposed the theory of cohesion, text analysis has been one of the mainstream linguistic approaches. The theories of text analysis can be applied to every aspect of English teaching and learning. In the past twenty years, considerable researchers in China have analyzed listening, speaking, reading and writing of English with the text analysis approach. Among their researches, reading takes up the majority. However, text analysis has been mostly applied to the study of reading instruction. Little attention has been paid to the study of reading comprehension test in the framework of text analysis theories. To fill in the gap in this area of study and enrich the application of text analysis theories to the study of testing paper, the study will focus on exploring the features of reading comprehension in NMET. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis are conducted in the study. The research firstly sets up a reading comprehension test corpora before corpora analysis is conducted. About 500 passages of testing papers in the recent six years are included in the study. To validate the study, the reading comprehension test of Liaoning Province in NMET in 2009 will be chosen as the sample test paper for qualitative study.It is hoped that this study can make it clear that vocabulary is the main testing aspect in reading comprehension. Additionally, the awareness of grammatical cohesive ties and lexical cohesive devices should be the focus of the reading comprehension of linguistic teaching.
