Grammar-translation is a traditional method which has a long history. With the development of society and the emergence of some new teaching methods, such as communicative approach, it was once thought to be out of date. In this thesis, by analyzing the current situation of the English studying in junior middle school, comparing the features between the grammar-translation method and the communicative approach, as well as referring to the New Curriculum Standard, I found that Grammar translation method still plays an important role in English teaching in junior middle schools. So this paper probes to exert the advantages of each method by integrating the two teaching methods in vocabulary, reading and writing teaching, so as to stimulate the learning interests of the students and help them to consolidate the grammar learning and improve the reading and writing skills, so that they can be suitable to the society.There are five parts in the paper. The author first states the problems occur in the English study among the junior middle school students. Then she describes three correlative theories:the grammar-translation method, the communicative approach and the psychological basis of the students'English study. In the third part, the author analyses the advantages and disadvantages of the grammar-translation method and the communicative approach, and discusses the rules and importance of the two theories within the frame of the new curriculum standards. After that, in the fourth part, which is the most important part of the paper, aiming at the problems in vocabulary, reading and writing teaching,the author tries to integrate the two theories in them by presenting her teaching modes, and shows the good effect. The fifth part is the conclusion, the author reinforces the importance of integrating the two theories in English teaching in junior middle school.
