Tourism has already become sunny industry, and tourism of China has developed from entry tour to the situation with entry tour, domestic tour and exit tour coexisting; the economy of administrative area existence and the reality of china accessing to the WTO, make the competition of regional tourism become fiercer and fiercer, which is the writing background of this paper.After analyzing the writing background, the thesis launches the study on competitiveness of tourism of area from three levels, they are: basic level, theory level and practical level on competitiveness study. The basic level is mainly composed of Peter's competitive theory, tourism sustainable theory and travel systematic theory, etc. The Poter's competitive theory is the key content of basic level. By the supporting of this key theoretical foundation, the study on regional tourism competitiveness could deepen from theory level into practical level, and constitutes the theoretical and practical system, which are the two parts of the study on the competitiveness of regional tourism.In the level of theory, the thesis carries on the research with quantitative and qualitative analysis, the result shows: The competition of the regional tourism was shaped under the role of the twofold structure model on industrial driving. Competition advantage is the core of competition, but the competition advantage is set up on the basis of comparative advantage of tourism in the area. The analysis on the structure of competitive factors of the regional tourism is equal to the analysis on the competitiveness advantage of the regional tourism. The weight of the index indicates: in the indexes on the competitiveness, both the product and tourism market, as supply and demand, play important roles. How to give full play of these advantages is the key to raise the competitiveness.Finally, the thesis takes Gansu Province as an example. The tourism in Gansu Province is at the stage of resources-oriented type, and located in the inferior position in the travel image ladder of the Northwest. Its tourism competitiveness is far below Shannxi's and slightly below Xinjiang's, and which belongs to the second level in the tourism competitiveness in Northwest China, as well as xingjiang. The measures to increase competitiveness of Gansu tourism are: optimizing the factors of production of tourism; fully utilizing the position advantage; strengthening the study on market behavior of the travel; the tourism enterprise managing strategic management ; the localization, specialization and area developing jointly of product development of the travel.
