Mental disorders which are characterized by the abnormal mental functions and disturbed behaviors with low mortality and high disability, are now a serious diseases threatening both physical and psychiatric health of human beings. According to the tenth revision of International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10), mental disorders include 10 types and 78 sub-types, among which schizophrenia, depression, alcohol and drug dependence, Alzheimer's disease and teenage behavior problems are the most popular and dangerous psychiatric diseases. Data provided by Mental Health Center in 2009 showed that mental disorders had ranked the first in the burden of all kinds of disease in China, which had almost accounted for one fifth of the total burden of disease. In order to get general ideas of composition of mental illness and the characteristics of each diseases in Changchun Mental Hospital, we used medical records from January 1st 2004 to December 31st 2009 to collect useful information, which could help to provide bases for mental diseases prevention and cure, also can help to understand the situation of mental diseases in the population of Changchun city or around.Objective:To investigate the types of mental disorders in Changchun Mental Hospital during the period of 2004 to 2009 and the characteristics among schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders , mood disorder, hysteria and stress related disorders and neurosis.Methods:According to CCMD-Ⅲ, self-designed questionnaires were used to collected information in the medical records from January 1st 2004 to December 31st 2009 in Changchun Mental Hospital. SPSS17.0 software was used to perform analysis. Means and Standard Deviations were used to describe continuous data which was fit for normal distribution; T test was used to compare means between two groups. F test was used to compare means among three groups. Ratio and proportion were used to describe classified data; Chi-square test was used to make analysis.Results:A total of 8215 medical records of mental disorder inpatients in Changchun Mental Hospital were collected. The number of female inpatients was more than male inpatients, and the ratio of male to female was 1.2:1.The average age of inpatient was 38.06±14.33 years old; the average age of onset was 32.72±14.48 years old. Male had earlier onset age than female (P<0. 05). The proportion of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorder, hysteria and stress related disorders and neurosis is separately 43.5%, 19.5% and 21.7%. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders inpatients had first onset age among three diseases (P<0.05). Among the top three types of mental disorders, patients with schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders had the earliest onset of age, longest courses, and highest education level. And most of them came from cities, had smoking history, drinking history and positive family history. No matter male or female, individual with high rank of birth had more risk of suffering from mental disorders(C=8.25>2,P<0.05).Conclusions:1. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders were the main type of mental disorders among inpatients in Changchun Mental Hospital, followed by hysteria and stress related disorders and neurosis. mood disorder.2. Among the top three types of mental disorders, patients with schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders had the earliest onset of age, longest courses, and highest education level. And most of them came from cities, had smoking history, drinking history and positive family history.3. No matter male or female, individual with high rank of birth had more risk of suffering from mental disorders.
