The Demographic Information Questionnaire, Self-Rating depression Scale(SDS), Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS), and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ) were used to collect sample's demographic characteristics, depression level, psychological status, social support and coping style respectively. Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) 13.0 was used to analyze all the data. The findings was described by (?)±s, frequency and percentage. The significance of the differences between or among groups was tested by two independent-samples t test, paired-sample t test, one way ANOVA and nonparameter test. The relationship between two variables was analyzed by Pearson correlation. The related factors on depression level were explored by multiple linear regression analysis.ResultsThe depression incidence of primiparas and their spouses were 14.75% and 9.02% before labor and 15.57% and11.48% after labor. The depression incidence between primiparas and their spouses before or after labor had no significant difference (p> 0.05).The SDS scores of primiparas and their spouses were 35.10±7.69and 31.97±7.55 before labor, and 34.75±7.56 and 35.12±8.06 after labor. The SDS scores of primiparas before labor and the spouses after labor was higher than the normal scores in China (p<0.05); The SDS scores of primiparas were higher than those of their spouses before labor (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference after labor (p>0.05); The SDS scores of the spouse after labor were higher than those before labor (P<0.05), but there is no significant difference before and after labor in primiparas (p>0.05).There was a positive relationship between the SDS scores of primiparas and their spouses before and after labor respectively (p<0.05)The spouses's scores of social support, subjective support and utilization of social support is higher than the primiparas's (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference in objective support (p>0.05). Active coping style had no significant difference between primiparas and their spouses (p>0.05), but the score of passive coping style of the spouses is higher than that of the primiparas (p<0.05). There was a positive relationship between the scores of social support and coping style of primiparas and their spouses before and after labor respectively (p<0.05)The age of primiparas, planned pregnancy, knowledge of paralabor and caregiver condition were the related factors of SDS scores of primiparas; The age of the spouses, education background, working condition, planned pregnancy, month income and caregiver condition were the related factors of SDS scores of the spouses.ConclusionsThe depression level is not very good in primiparas and their spouses before and after labor and they had positive relationships. At the same time there were so many factors related to the depression of primiparas and their spouses. High social support and positive coping style can decrease the depression incidence and their severity. The practical suggestions for clinical nursing were that we should assess the psychological health, at the same time pay attention to the psychological health status of their spouses and take effective measures to make sure of the smooth labor.
