Objective: This study mainly explores the relationship between middle school students’ life events and depression,and then introduces two variables,social support and coping style,to further analyze the mechanism of social support and coping style between middle school students’ life events and depression.Corresponding intervention measures are proposed to reduce the occurrence of depression among middle school students and make young people grow up healthily.Methods: From July to December 2020,3 junior high schools and 3high schools in Jining City,a total of 830 middle school students were selected,and paper questionnaires were conducted using the " Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check ","Social Support Scale","Coping Style Scale" and " Chinese Version of the Beck Depression Inventory-II ",including general demographic data,life events,social support,coping methods and depression.In this study,The data entry was carried out by Epidata3.0 software and the data were analyzed by SPSS25.0.Results:(1)In terms of life events,the life event score of boys is significantly higher than that of girls;the life event score of only children is higher than that of non-only children;the life event score of secondary school students with poor family income is significantly higher than that of adolescents with high family economic income;and There is no significant difference in the scores of life events among middle school students of different grades whether the parental relationship is harmonious or not.(2)In terms of social support,the social support score of middle school students with harmonious parental relations is significantly higher than that of middle school students with discordant parental relations;at the junior high school stage,the social support score of junior high school students with higher grades is significantly higher than that of junior high school students in lower grades,whether they are only children and middle school students of different genders and family economic levels were significant differences in social support.(3)In terms of coping styles,boys’ immature coping methods scored significantly higher than those of female students;secondary school students with harmonious parental relations scored significantly higher than those of secondary school students with incompatible parental relations;and at the junior high school stage,junior high school students with lower grades scored higher on immature coping styles than junior high school students with higher grades,high school students scored significantly higher than junior high school students’ mature coping styles;and whether only children and middle school students with different family economic levels scored significantly in coping styles.(4)In terms of depressed mood,the detection rate of depression in middle school students was 25.8%,mild depression accounted for 13.1%,moderate depression accounted for 7.5%,and severe depression accounted for 5.2%.The detection rates of depression in boys and girls were as follows: 23.9%,27.7%.The detection rates of junior high school students and high school students were 28.4% and 22.9%,respectively.Middle school students with harmonious parental relationships scored higher on depressed mood than middle school students with poor parental relations;high school students scored lower on depressed mood than junior high school students.There were no significant differences in depressed mood scores between genders,family economic levels,and whether they were only children.(5)Middle school students’ life events,social support,coping style and depressed mood were significantly correlated.(6)Secondary school students’ life events,social support,and coping styles all have a predictive effect on depression.(7)Social support for middle school students plays a regulatory role between life events and depressed mood.(8)The coping style of middle school students plays a part of the mediating role between life events and depression.Conclusion: Life events of middle school students not only have a direct effect on depression,but also indirectly affects the depressed mood through the regulatory role of social support and the mediation effect of the coping mode.
