Objective: To study the hemostatic effects and mechanisms of Arnebia euchroma (Royle) Johnst (AE) . Methods: The hexane, ethyl acetate, 95%ethanol and water extracts of AE were examined by cutting the mice tail to measure the bleeding time (BT) firstly after orally administered to the mice for 7days. The effective part were confirmed. Then the ethyl acetate extract were orally administered to the mice and rats consecutively for 14 days, respectively. The coagulation time (CT) , bleeding time (BT) and the platelet count were tested in mice. The arnebia euchroma ethyl acetate extract were High, middle, low dose orally administered to the rats consecutively for7, 14, 21 days, respectively. Blood samples were collected from abdominal artery and tested activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) , thromboplastin time (PT) , thrombin time (TT) and contents of fibrinogen (FIB) in rats. Results: The extract significantly shortened the CT, BT and TT, increase the platelet count and FIB content. Conclusions: The ethyl acetate extract of AE showed better hemostatic effects, the mechanism considered that were related with the rising of FIB content which impel the process of fibrinogen transfer to fibrin, and of platelet count influenced the anticoagulation and fiber dissolution system.
