The purpose of study:Nowadays, after treatment the life span of breast cancer patients have been prolonged, and their quality of life has been upgraded, too. This study mainly focuses on patients of breast cancer with liver depression and spleen after operation. This treatment project was designed by the graduate, who has practiced Taoism Qigong teaching for years, and her advisor with expertise of Chinese herbal medicine. It was experimented by comparative study of observing the effect of Taoism Psychosomatic Combination Therapy with Xiaoyaosan towards quality of life of patients of breast cancer with liver depression and spleen after operation.Methodology:Fifty cases of breast cancer patients with liver depression and spleen after operation were divided into two groups:25cases of the treatment group (or experimental group) adopted the project of Taoism Psychosomatic Combination Therapy with Xiaoyaosan; the other 25 cases of the comparative group (or control group) only treated with Taoism Psychosomatic Combination Therapy. Instead of collecting data of Chinese medical practices, QLQ-BR53 survey was administered for both pre-and post-tests to compare improvements and differences between two groups' quality of life after different treatments.Research findings:The total rate of improvement for the treatment group is 96%, however, the total rate of improvement for the other group drops to 60%. Obviously, the treatment group performed better than the comparative group. The symptoms appeared on the treatment group (or experimental group) have improved more obviously than the other group and achieved to p< 0.05. As to the Scale of Quality of Life, both groups were improved after different treatments. The treatment group's scores on emotional functions, cognitive function, total health conditions, tiresome, pains, lost of appetite, diarrhea and breast conditions were higher than the other group, and achieved to p< 0.01.Conclusion:The results were manifested:Though a certain degree of improvement for quality of life of Taoism Psychosomatic Combination Therapy towards patients of breast cancer with liver depression and spleen after operation was found, more significant improvements for quality of life of Taoism Psychosomatic Combination Therapy with Xiaoyaosan towards patients of breast cancer with liver depression and spleen after operation were testified.
