Objective To explore effect of personality, stress and related factors in depression, in order to provide a basis for further study on cause and intervention, also provide guidance for concrete practice of preventing depression and promoting people's mental health. Methods 1:1 matched case-control study was used. 67 depression patients were selected according to diagnostic criteria for depression in ICD-10, another 67 healthy people with the same age and gender were matched, which were respectively regarded as case group and control group. They were both investigated by Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, Life Event Scale, Ways of Coping Questionnaire, The Self-Esteem Scale, Family Environment Scale, Social Support Questionnaire , Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran and self-made general status questionnaire. Results 1. One-factor analysis showed:①As to general status, there existed significant difference in individual status (home place, only child, health-conscious and interpersonal relationship), monthly family income, parents'occupations and educational level between case group and control group.②About Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, case group gained a significantly lower E score than control group, but N score and L score were both higher than control group.③About life events, case group got a higher score on negative life event stress, and a higher total score of stress than control group.④About coping style, self-reproach factor score of case group was higher than control group, and problem solving factor score and resort factor score were lower than control group, the differences between them were significant.⑤About self-esteem, the score of case group was significantly lower than control group.⑥Score of case group's seven factors of family environment, such as cohesion, expressiveness, achievement orientation and so on, were lower than control group.⑦About social support, the total score, objective support score, subjective support score and social support availability score of case group were all lower than control group.⑧About parental rearing styles, parental warm emotion and understanding factor scores of case group were all lower than control group; Fatherly exceeding interference factor score and mother's exceeding interference or over-protection, severe-punishment factor scores were both higher than control group; There were significant differences. 2. Multiple factors analysis. Regarding whether or not in depression as dependent variable, while personality, stress and related factors as independent variables, conditional logistic stepwise regression was used. The result revealed that coping style of non-problem solving, life event capacity beyond normal range, personality of emotional instability and maternal rearing style of severe-punishment were risky factors of depression. Conclusions Growing background, personality, encountering life events, stress reaction were closely related to one's depression. Therefore, integrative treatment and intervention of depression should be carried out, aiming to individual, family, society.
