Objective:To explore the method of establishment of alveolar hydatid disease in New Zealand white rabbit model and it's feasibility. Then we analyze the value of 1H Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) and magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) results to the disease. Method:We modle in two ways. The one is direct inoculating into the brain of New Zealand white rabbit after puncturing the skull in the case of direct vision. Another is injecting into the internal carotid artery inoculated protoscoleces. The suspensions were prepared by concentration of about 3-5×103 protoscoleces per milliliter and 5-10×103 protoscoleces per milliliter. When inoculate after 30,60 and 90 days, we scaned brains of all animals in conventional MRI,Magnevist Solution/Magnevist contrast enhancement, 1H MRS and DWI with GE Signa 3.0T superconducting MR scanner. Then we measured the value of central area lesion, lesion surrounding edema and normal brain tissue, meanwhile we used independent sample t test (α= 0.05) to analyze two sets of data. Results:We found that we could find the lesion when we used routine MR scans and MR enhanced scans. While the baseline of image processing which was scaned by 1H MRS and DWI image had large measurement error because of reflected shadow in skull. So we can not make statistically analysis to both of these images. The pathology results showed that inoculate successfully in two different depths of the brain, and vaccination rates were 26.32% and 5.56%. Otherwise injecting into the internal carotid artery was unsuccessfully due to vaccination rates was 0%.Conclusion:The rabbit model of the alveolar hydatid disease is feasible. The inoculation through direct vision of the skull puncture to the brain is more successful, and inoculation point should be close to the meningeal, where blood vessel-rich region. The results of magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging is valuable when we diagnose the disease.
