| Objective:To evaluate the preliminary clinical result of metal-on-metal hip prosthesis. Methods:From April 2009 to November 2009,45 hips in 40 cases with osteoarthritis, osteonecrosis, ankylosing spondylitis, hip dysplasia, fracture of femoral neck and it's complications were treated with the metal-on-metal (Co,Cr,Mo) hip prosthesis in the Second affiliated hospital Zhejiang University college of medicine, by Professor Lidong Wu, Department of Orthopaedics. The hip function was evaluated by Harris scores. Every patient was photographed to observe the location of the prosthesis. The patients were followed up after operation to compare the X-ray changes.Results:32 hips in 29 cases were followed up. Harris hip score increased from 54.3 points(range,21 to 76)to 94.7points(range,88 to 97), the excellent and good rate was 100%. The position of the prosthesis was satisfactory without any evidence of loosening and infection. No patient need to be rebuilt. There was no dislocation, infection, acetabular or femoral fracture in all patients. Radiolucent line existed around the acetabular prosthesis was found in one hip. Three patients said that sometimes it is not very comfortable in the hip joint after the operation, and the groin pain was refered to one patient. Sound around the joint appeared in one patient, two patient have difficulty to put on their shoes, and one patient need crutch for help. Conclusions:The results showed that the metal-on-metal hip arthroplasty is effective for the patients with osteoarthritis, osteonecrosis, ankylosing spondylitis, hip dysplasia, fracture of femoral neck and it's complications. The short-term results are satisfied. |
