Background:The rising portion of aged individuals in the population of China is a growing problem. The associated problems, such as the healthcare costs, age-related diseases have significant impact on the patients, patients'families and our society. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) gathers affluent theoretical and clinical experience in anti-aging, health care and preventing diseases. It's meaningful for economic and social development to explore the anti-aging resources in TCM.Objective:To investigate the anti-aging effect of Yanshuai mixture (YSM), the levels of T-AOC, SOD, MDA in the serum and brain tissue and the learning memory function were measured in the subacute aging model mice. Methods:The subacute aging model mice were induced by D-galactose injected subcutaneously on the back neck of mice. At the same time, low, medium and high dose of YSM were administered intragastrically once daily for 10 weeks. The Morris Water Maze test was used to evaluate the learning and memory function. The levels of T-AOC, T-SOD, MDA in the serum and brain tissue were measured. Results:Compared with the normal group mice, the T-AOC, SOD activities of aging group mice decreased, while MDA content increased significantly (p<0.01) and the escape latency (EL) of aging model mice was prolonged while the original quadrant swimming time (OQST) was significantly shorter (p<0.05). T-AOC, SOD activities in the serum and brain tissue of the BSYS group and YSM groups mice significantly increased, while MDA levels decreased significantly compared with the aging model group (p<0.01); YSM shortened the EL of the aging model mice, while prolonged the OQST significantly compared with the model group (p<0.05). The effect of high dose YSM group is superior to BSYS group ( p<0.05).Conclusion:It is indicated that YSM can improve the learning and memory ability and increase anti-oxidative capacity of aging mice, which may has a good anti-aging effect.
