Objective To investigate the characters of occlusal contacts of patients with unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molar before and after the hyper-erupted third molar extraction. Methods 44 individuals, 22 with unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molars as test groups and 22 without hyper-erupted third molars as control group, were enrolled in present study. The occlusal contact characters of 22 cases with unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molar and the 22 controls were all measured with T-Scanâ…¢system in the intercuspal occlusal position ,the protrusive movement, and as well as the lateral movement. Results (1) The statistical analysis showed the movement of center of force between the patients with unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molars group and the control group was statiscally different. (2) Before and after the patients with unilateral hyper-erupted mandibulao third molars extracted the hyper-erupted mandibular third molar , the movements of center of force of the two group were showed statiscally different by statistical analysis. (3) The statistical analysis showed the clusion times and the disclusion times between the patients with unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molars group and the control group were statiscally different.Only the clusion times and the protrusive disclusion times were showed statiscally different by statistical analysis between the teeth extraction group and the control group. (4) By statistical analysis, the premature contact occurrence rate and the occlusal interference occurrence rate were related with the unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molar. Conclusions (1) Compared with the control group's occlusion, the patients with unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molar's balance and stabilization were poor. (2) After extracted the unilateral hyper-erupted mandibular third molar, patients'occlusal stability were improved to some extent.
