ObjectiveHemangiomas are the most common benign tumor of infancy. To our knowledge, much of the treatment options published for hemangioma -s, containing systemic steroids, interferon, anticancer drugs, laser, surgical excision and so on. However, the treatment plan often depends lesion location, size, growth phase, age of the patient at the time of evaluation, and surgeon's experience. In addition, any option has side effects. So clinicians thirstly to search a sort of treatment methods with fewer side effects for infantile hemangiomas. The purpose of this study is to discuss the efficacy of propranolol therapy use for infantile hemangiomas.Methods41 infantile patients with hemangiomas that treated in our department outpatient clinics and wards were collected from September 2009 to August 2010. According to the attitude of the parents, the total 41 cases were classified into treatment group and observation group. The treatment group consists of 20 patients received propranolol treatment, and 21 cases belong to the observation group. The changes of tumor were monitored between the treatment group and the observation group. Pretherapeutic heart rate, blood glucose and blood ALT,AST,BUN,CREA,FT3,FT4 and sTSH were monitored in the treatment group, so were in post-treatment.ResultsAfter 2 month, there were 9 significantly effective cases, 11 effective cases and 0 noneffective case in treatment group, compared to 0 significantly effective case, 8 effective cases and 13 noneffective cases in observation group. There was significant difference between treatment group and observation group in effect, and so was heart rate 1 hour after medication in the treatment group, but not in blood glucose, heart rate 6 hours after medication and blood ALT,AST,BUN, CREA,FT3, FT4 and sTSH(P>0.05).Conclusion1.Propranolol therapy has a certain inhibitory effect in infantile hemangiomas.2. Propranolol therapy did not find significant side effects.
