The career adaptation of medical graduates is investigated in this research through the methods of questionnaire, interview, literature reviewing and observation so as to discuss the discrepancy between different medical education modes, e.g. "4+4" medical program and 7-year continuous medical education. Taking common vocational features and particularity of medical career into consideration, medical graduates'career adaptation is analyzed by four dimensions:career competency, therapeutic relationship, interpersonal relationship at workplace and adaptation of professional psychology. It is found in this research that1.On the whole, the level of career adaptation for junior doctors needs improving and is mainly shown as:fairly career competency with heavy medical scientific research burden, unsatisfied therapeutic relationship, fairly good interpersonal relationship at workplace and doctor-nurse relation needs to be further improved and poor adaptation of vocational psychology with various influencing factors.2. Difference exists between two medical education modes in doctor career adaptation and'4+4'program graduates show slightly higher level of overall career adaption than 7-year program counterparts. The graduates of two education modes have their own advantages in enhancing career competency and have similar difficulties for medical graduates in handling doctor-patient relation issues. No significant difference was shown between the two groups in interpersonal relationship adaptation but'4+4' program graduates show a slight higher level of adaptation of vocational psychology than their 7-year program counterparts.3. The influential factors on doctor career adaptation is shown as the following subsequence (from the highest influence to the lowest):honors awarded in work, gender, major background and time devoted to career training. The contribution of different dimensions of career adaptation to the overall medical graduates' career adaption level is is illustrated as the following subsequence (from greatest to the lesast):career competency, vocational psychology, doctor-patient relationship and interpersonal relationship. 4. The major influential factors for doctor career adaptation of'4+4'graduates include:the expectation for future career development, the ability of handling clinical ethnic problems, the unique sensitivity for scientific issues, the smooth relation with nurses, the trust from the patients, judgement and cognition of complex information, etc.Based on the above-mentioned investigation, the author proposes a few suggestions and countermeasures to improve the career adaptation for medical graduates.
