Objective: A retrospective research was conducted to describe the birth profile, clinical charaters, laboratories and prognosis of neonatal sepsis in the neonatal intensive care unit(NICU). The aim is to find out the risk factors and characteristic symptoms. Methods: The 200 case files of newborn infants who were diagnosed neonatal sepsis in the NICU in our hospital were enrolled from March 2005 to November 2010. 94 cases meet the diagnosis standards of Neonatal sepsis. 73 cases were nosocomial infection. All the clinical datas were assorted to count data and measurement data .The measurement data was compared by t-test or nonparametric-test and the count data was compared by 2×2 tableΧ2 analysis to find the differences of neonatal sepsis group and nonneonatal sepsis group, death group and survival group. All the different data was enrolled to Logistic regression to find out the risk factors.Results:1 A total of 94 neonates were recruited. A total of 26 neonates were dead, with a morbidity of 27.7% for neonatal sepsis. The significant data of death group and survival group included: high platelet count(p=0.000), hospital time(p=0.000), the time of of stomach tube application(p=0.014), fever time(p=0.000), the time of respirator application(p=0.000), respirator application(p=0.000), enteron bleeding(p=0.003), lung bleeding(p= 0.000), apnea(p=0.000),Frequent apnea(p= 0.000), skin bleeding blot(p=0.000), the peristaltic sound diminished (p=0.000), heart sound diminished(p=0.000), oliguria (p=0.000), edematous(p=0.002), hyperglycemia(p=0.001), liver increased(p=0.011), pneumonia(p=0.021). The risk factors of Logistic regression were apnea, frequent apnea, the peristaltic sound diminished, edematous ,hyperglycemia and pneumonia. The Logistic equation was: LogitP=-52.821+1.069X1+1.805 X3+57.427X5+0.627X8+1.796X9+55.403X11+(-2.253)X12.2 A total of 94 neonates were nosocomial infection. A total of 45 cases according to the standard of neonatal sepsis, with a rate of correct diagnosis of 60.8%. The significant data of neonatal sepsis group and nonneonatal sepsis group included: birth weight(p=0.034), the time of start lactation(p=0.027), the time of using stomach tube(p=0.005), hypoglycemia(p=0.022), apnea(p=0.008), edematous(p=0.002), abdominal distension (p=0.002), enteron bleeding(p=0.002), Low platelet count (p=0.000) and C-reactive protein(p=0.000). The risk factors of Logistic regression were Low value of platelet and C response protein. The Logistic equation was: LogitP=8.507+(-4.126 X1+2.107X2.Conclutions: We can infer that the initial conclution: The appearance of apnea, especially frequent apnea, the peristaltic sound changed, skin bleeding blot, edematous, hyperglycemia and pneumonia always indicate bad prognosis of neonatal sepsis. If the neonate whose value of platelet persistently decrease and; C-reactive proteinincrease, he might be diagnosis as neonatal sepsis.
