Background:Chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, is a devastating and complex disorder characterized by overwhelming fatigue that is not improved by bed rest and that may be worsened by physical or mental activity. People with CFS most often function at a significantly lower level of activity than they were capable of before the onset of illness. In addition to these key defining characteristics, patients report various nonspecific symptoms, including weakness, muscle pain, impaired memory and/or mental concentration, insomnia, and post-exertional fatigue lasting more than 24 hours. In some cases, CFS can persist for years. The cause or causes of CFS have not been identified and no specific diagnostic tests are available. Moreover, since many illnesses have incapacitating fatigue as a symptom, care must be taken to exclude other known and often treatable conditions before a diagnosis of CFS is made. Objective:To explore the characteristics of quality of life (QOL)and fatigue in patients with chronic fatigue symdrome(CFS)and the therapeutic effect of Bo-shi Abdominal Acupuncture of traditional Chinese medicine and electric physical therapy.Method:In this study, sixty patients with CFS were assigned into two treatment group and treated with 10 times of acupuncture or electric physical therapy which was carried out every day except the weekend.â‘ Bo-shi Abdominal Acupuncture group:uses Bo-shi Abdominal Acupuncture method. The acupoints were selected, such asshangwan(RN13), zhongwan(RN12), guanyuan(RN4), qihai(RN6), Huaroumen(ST 24), wailing(ST26) et al.â‘¡lectric physical therapy group:uses vacuum suction stereo-dynamic interferential electrotherapy, The manipulations were emphasized on Bladder Meridian of Foot Taiyang(BL).The features of health status, QOL and fatigue of two groups were evaluated bv the Fatigue Scale-14 and the World Health Organization Quality Of Life Questionnaire abbreviated version respectively.Result:After 2 courses of treatments, The total effective rate of Bo-shi Abdominal Acupuncture group was 80%; the total effective rate of electric physical therapy group was 76.4%%, statistically, there is no difference between two groups. The grades of two group of drops, two group of QOL comparison difference has the significant diference(P<0.05). vacuum suction stereo-dynamic interferential electrotherapy Bo-shi Abdominal Acupuncture method is more effective than electric physical therapy method in the psychometric part. After the treatment, credits of the WHOQOL-BREF of the group rose in PHYS, PSYHS, SOCIL, ENVIR parts, the difference of which has significant differenceConclusion:Bo-shi Abdominal Acupuncture method is totally more effective than the electric physical therapy method. |
