The Comparision And Study In The Results Of Treating Angle Classicâ…¢ Malocclusion By Reverse Twin-block And Frankel-â…¢

Objective:The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism and advantages and disadvantages of the reverse Twin-block appliance and Frankel-III appliance in treatment of children who are ClassIII malocclusion mixed dentition and early skeletal mature dentition. It is especially useful for clinicians to choose the suitable method for treatment.Method:The two appliances were used on 28 growing subjects with ClassIII malocclusion in mixed dentition and early skeletal mature dentition (14males, 14females). Among them,14 subjects were randomly selected for treatment with reverse Twin-block appliance (T group) and 14 subjects for Frankel-III appliance (F group).All patients were treated for all the day and for total of 3.5-11 months. The cephalometric records of these subjects were examined before and after the treatments. The acquired data were processed with SPSS 10.0.Results:The subjects in two groups all had significant changes. Skeletal:â‘ Both groups could accelerate the development of the maxillary bone. But the Frankel-III was more effective.â‘¡The results showed a mandible receded backward in both groups. Dentition:F group have significant effects of up righting upper frontal teeth and flaring lower teeth. Time:the average treatment time was 6.5 months in reverse twin-block appliance therapy group and 9 months in Frankel-III appliance group.Conclusion:Both reverse Twin-block appliance and Frankel-III appliance could treat effectively angle classIII malocclusions. The effects of maxillary changes of Frankel-III appliance are better than reverse Twin-block appliance. Treatment period was significant shorter in T group than in F group.
