Objective: The model of acute pancreatitis in dogs was performed following the epidural block in L1-L2 , at the same time the basis pressure of Oddi sphincter, contraction amplitude and contraction frequency were measured. All data are used to discuss the principle of treatment of acute pancreatitis with epidural anesthesia and to provide a theoretical basis and a safe and effective new methodMethods:The 20 dogs were randomly divided into 3 groups, 5% sodium taurocholate (0.5ml/kg), was injected into the abdominal cavity through an abdominal incision along the pancreatic duct under general anesthesia, and saline was injected in sham group. All animals were dealt with epidural block in L1-L2. 0.5% bupivacaine (1-3) mg/kg was injected to animals of pancreatitis model after 30 minutes, and saline was injected in sham group. Conclusion : Epidural block not only provides patients with acute pancreatitis with a good analgesic effect, but can ease the sphincter Oddi spasm, which can promote the efflux of bile and pancreatic juice and reduce the severity of pancreatitis. Epidural block is a good measurement to treat acute pancreatitis .
