Objective: To investigate the prevalence rate of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) and its risk factors among adult males in a general population. Methods: The large-scale physical examination were conducted for statistical analysis in Fangchenggang First People's Hospital. A standard interview, anthropometrics, biochemical studies, and abdominal ultrasonography were required for each participant. Results: A total of 3238 cases of adult men took part in the survey in which 832 individuals was diagnosed as NAFLD (25.69%). The 2,406 normal subjects were designated as the control group. Among participants younger than 50 years old,the prevalence of NAFLD was increased with aging, but in participants older than 50 years the case was just the opposite, decreased in adult males. The mean age, waist circumference, body mass index(BMI), waist-to-hipratio, contractive pressure, diastolic pressure, fasting plasma glucose(FPG), total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), ALT, uric acid(UA), and the presence of overweigh, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesteremia, hypertriglyceridemia, Impairedfasting glucose, Diabetes, hypertension, hyperuricemia, liver dysfunction in NAFLD group was significantly higher than those in control group, but the high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level was lower in NAFLD group. Logistic regression showed that TG, BMI, waist circumference, FPG, HDL-C, ALT and UA were highly relative to NALFD.Conclusions: There is a high prevalence of NAFLD among adult males in Fangchenggang Area. The risk factors for NAFLD are TG, BMI, waist circumference and FPG. HDL-C is the protective factor for NALFD. Attention should be paid to NAFLD prophylaxis and treatment.
