Objective:The objective of the resent study was to profile the known degree of health knowledge among rural elderly peole and reveal the relationship between this degree and health-related quality of life among these people.Methods:Two-hundred-and-six elderly persons(concluding 106 community-dwelling persons and 101 nursing home persons)filled out a questionnaire assessing the mental health knowledge, physical health knowledge,36-Item Short-Form Health Survey scale-2,and some demographic variables(such as age, gender, education, income, physical illness, activity level, nation and so on).Results:1.The known degree of health knowledge was low among the subjects, especially the mental health knowledge(Z=-11.304,P<0.01). 2.There were relationships between the known degree of physical health knowledge and age(r=-0.18,P<0.05), education year(r=0.24, P<0.01), There were statistic difference about the known degree of physical health knowledge between aged people with difference in occupation(t=3.80,P< 0.01)and the social interaction(F=4.81,P<0.01); There were relationships between the known degree of mental health knowledge and age(r=-0.15,P< 0.05), education year(r=0.23,P<0.01), personal income(r=0.25, P< 0.01)and family income(r=0.29,P<0.01), economic self-assessment(r=0.16, P<0.01), the number of child(r=0.23,P<0.01) and grandchild(r=0.16,P< 0.05), the number of chronic illness(r=0.14, P<0.05).And there were statistic difference in out frequency (Z=9.42, P<0.01) and mode of living (Z=-4.11, P<0.01).3.Multivariable stepwise regression showed there were 4 main influence factors to the known degree of physical health knowledge, the total variance explanation of it reach to 20%, the influence factors were:occupation, social interaction, education years, the mode of living; there were 3 main influence factors to the known degree of mental health knowledge, the total variance explanation of it reach to 13%, the influence factors were:activities frequency, economic self-assessment and admission.4.There were statistic difference about Physical health between aged people with difference in gender (t=-2.17,P<0.05), age (t=2.50,P< 0.05), occupation(t=-3.27,P<0.05), a relationship was found between the physical health and incomes(r=0.15,P< 0.05). There were statistic difference about mental health in nations(t=2.19,P<0.05), social interaction (F=7.44,P<0.01), activities frequency (F=5.82,P<0.01). 5.There was no statistic difference about health-related quality of life between residents in nursing home and in community except for role limitations due to emotional problems.6.Multivariable stepwise regression showed there were 6 main influence factors to elderly physical HQOL enter into regression equation and the total variance explanation of physical HQOL reach to 41.5%:the influence factor from big to small in turns were: the number of illness, activities frequency, admission, durg use, social interaction, self-asessment of economic status. There were 3 main influence factors to elderly mental HQOL enter into regression equation and the total variance explanation of it reach to 27.5%:the influence factor form big to small in turns are:mental health knowledge, social interaction, drug use. 7.weak relationships were found between the known degree of health knowledge and the physical (r=0.15, P<0.05)and mental (r=0.18, P< 0.05)health-related quality of life. Conclusion:In the mental health knowledge, rural elderly people have a very low score. Because of the relationship between known degree of health knowledge and elderly people's health-related quality of life, early health education intervention is necessary.
