BACKGROUND Since the last century lifespan of mankind has been greatly prolonged. All kinds of diseases, especially some chronic diseases are threatening people's life and health, however, our Party and government have paid special attention to and showed great concern for the health of our people. It has been put forward in the resolution about health Reform and Development that "Every citizen enjoys health care." To raise the health of our people to a higher level is one of the most important objects of socialist modernization, the indication of people's life quality improvement, an important content of socialist spiritual civilization and an important guarantee of sustainable economic and social development of our country. As far as individual is concerned, both his happy life and business success are based on the good health. Therefore, regular physical check-up is one important method of realization of the above goals. The function of the hospital is being converted from treatment of disease to the combination of prevention and treatment. Physical examination centers for occupational diseases have emerged as times demand. Currently, an important mission is to protect our people's health effectively and put efforts into the prevention of diseases. This paper is to provide some information and basis for instructing people's healthy life by analyzing the results of physical check-ups performed for people in different occupations in an A-level third grade hospital in Baotou City.OBJECTIVBES To understand the prevalence of chronic diseases of people receiving physical examination in a hospital in Baotou City, and to esplore the influnencing factions of chronic diseases. which to offer a scientific bases for formulating policies and the strategies involved in the treatment and prevention of some chronic diseases as well as in taking relevant measures of treatment and prevention.METHODOLGY The subjects were selected from among the series of individuals who came for regular physical examination in a given hospital in Baotou City. We used the unified questionnaire and method toinvestigate pepple's prevalence of chronic diseases. The questionnaire included their social-demographic characteristics, their health status, their physical exercises, their behavior and life-style, etc. All of the information was described statistically, and the data obtained from the physical examinations in combination with the questionnaire was statistically analyzed by SPSS 11.5 and X2 test was used for the comparison between the groups.MAIN RESULTS (1) The main eight chronic diseases detected was hyperlipemia, hypertension, adiposis hepatica, CAD, gallstone, gastritis,DM and emphysema.Top eight diseases in male were hyperlipemia, adiposis hepatica, hypertension, CAD, gastritis, gallstone,DM and emphysema while in female hyperplasia of mammary glands, hyperlipemia, cervicitis, colpitis, hypertension, adiposis hepatica, gallstone and CAD.Comparing the sharing diseases in two crowd, hyperlipemia, adiposis hepatica and hypertension have a higher prevalence in male.(2) Detection results of different ages. The prevalence rate of hyperlipemia and adiposis hepatica was highest in the group of 40-49 years old in male and highest in the group of 50-59 years old in female,and hypertension was highest in the group of aged above 50-59 years old in male and highest in the group of aged above 60 years old in female. The prevalence rate of hyperplasia of mammary glands,cervicitis and colpitis was highest in the group of 40-49 years old in female. (3) Detection results of different occupations. It demonstrated that in eight chronic diseases in all, hypertension, CAD, gastritis and DM had highest prevalence among public security and lowest among workers in male.Bank staff was more apt to suffer gallstone.In female the prevalence rate of hyperplasia of mammary glands was highest in workers, cervicitis and colpitis were highest in public functionaries, hyperlipemia, hypertension, adiposis hepatica and CAD were highest in engineer. Gallstone was highest in civil servant and lowest in police. (4) Detection results of different marriages.Comparing the married and unmarried,the prevalence of the main eight chronic diseases was higher in married people,while it was fewer in divorced and people lose spouse.Reason unanalyzed. (5) Detection results of different educational backgrounds.Prevalence of the eight diseases was highest among senior school and special secondary school people in male.It had the same morbidity rate in female of the seven diseases except gallstone.Few junior school people were unanalyzed.Many researches found that educational background,age,occupation,marriage, physical exercise,smoking,drinking,staying up late and life style may be the influencing factors.The study is aimed to find wheather the factors affect the morbility of the chronic diseases.Results by the univariate and multivariate analysis demonstrated that age, gender, educational background, occupation, staying up late and BMI affected the morbility while others not.CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS 1.The main eight chronic diseases detected was hyperlipemia, hypertension, adiposis hepatica, CAD, gallstone, gastritis,DM and emphysema.2.Age, gender, educational background, occupation, staying up late and BMI were main factors affecting the morbility.3.Health education should be carried out to alter unhealthy behaviors and life styles. Regular health examination was necessary for early detection and early diagnosis and transforming passive medical treatment to active health care.
