ObjectivesWith industrialization and urbanization, more and more people get into the city. The floating population has become an important part of the citizen. Guangzhou is the typical area which the considerable floating population got into. The number of the floating people in Tianhe of Guangzhou amounts to 729724. The article analyzed the floating population's socio-demographic characteristics, quality of life, demand and utilization of health services, and the factors. It provided information to health administrative departments to improve the quality of life and health services of floating population. So that health resources can be reasonably allocated and the equity and accessibility of health services can be improved.MethodsThe study selected the villages in Tianhe district in Guangzhou as field, and floating population above 16 years old as object. It used stratified random sampling and cluster sampling. Some analytical methods such as literature review, factor analysis, crosstabs, T-test, ANOVA, logistic regression, and multiple regression were applied with the statistical softwares of Epidata3.1 and SPSS 16.0.Results and Conclusions1. The floating population in Tianhe villages had low education level, middle aged structure and long hours working. Men earned more than women.2. Floating population's quality of life was worse than citizens. Ages, working hours, medical costs and two weeks prevalence affected to the quality of life. 3. The floating population had high two weeks prevalence, wide disease spectrum, good self-health assessment and low medical costs in average. But they might have made an overdraft of life.4. The floating population had low two weeks visiting rate, and they preferred to community health services.5. The floating population's health insurance rate which was affected by ages and jobs was low. And the income affected to the choice of health insurance species.Suggestions1. Take demand of the floating population into account while developing the community health services. Provide the floating population with community health service which appropriate to them.2. Play the strengths of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Publicize Traditional Chinese Medicine in prevention and treatment.3. Improve the environment of the villages. Give psychological counseling to floating population.4. Accelerate the reform of the medical security system. Strengthen health insurance policy advocacy.
