Objective:To study the relationship between serum testosterone and atherosclerosis in old-aged males, through the study of the changes of testosterone, inflammatory factor and pathological changes of coronary artery in old-aged males, which has been done by the coronary arteriography.Methods:128 in-patients who had accepted coronary angiography were divided into four groups, including the control group (n=32), the single vessel pathological changes group(SV group,n=32), the double vessel pathological changes group(DV group,n=32) and the three vessel pathological changes group(TV group,n=32), according to the degree of the artery pathology changes. The levels of serum total testosterone (TT),sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-a) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were assayed, and free testosterone (FT) were calculated with the Vermeulen formula.Results:1. compared with the control group, the total case group had significant difference in FT,CRP,TNF-a and IL-6, while there was no statistical difference in TT and SHBG.2. Each coronary artery disease subgroup, compared with the control group, have significant decrease in FT, and have significant increase in CRP, TNF-a and IL-6. 3. As for FT, there is significant difference between the SV group and DV disease group (P<0.05), and between DV group and TV group (P<0.01). and between DV group and TV group(P<0.05).As for CRP, there is no statistical difference among the case subgroup (P>0.05). As for TNF-a, there is significant difference between the SV group and DV group(P<0.05), and between SV group and TV group(P<0.01). As for IL-6, there is significant difference between the SV group and TV group (P<0.05), and between DV group and TV group(P<0.05).4. FT and CRP,TNF-a,IL-6 are obvious negative correlation(r<-0.5, P<0.01) in the pearson relative analysis.Conclusion:1.The serum FT level in men with coronary artery disease was obviously lower than that with normal coronary artery.2.The decrease of the FT level could be one of the risk factors for the atherosclerosis in old-aged males.3.The increase of inflammatory factors was possibly associated with coronary heart disease.
