Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression of P-STAT3, VEGF and CD34 in the juvenile laryngeal papilloma and the relationship among them .CD34 protein was used to mark vessel endothelium cell. Microvessel density was compared according to the expression of CD34. To evaluate the role of P-STAT3,VEGF and CD34-MVD in the development of the juvenile laryngeal papilloma. Methods: The expression of P-STAT3 protein, VEGF protein were both detected with immunohistochemical methods in 30 specimens of juvenile laryngeal papilloma and 15 of normal palatopharyngeal arch mucosa. CD34 protein was used to mark vessel endothelium cell. Microvessel density was compared according to the expression of CD34. The result was analyzed statistically.Result: In the 30 specimens of juvenile laryngeal papilloma , the positive expression rate of P-STAT3 and VEGF were 96.67% and 80% respectively, which were much higher than the control group(46.67% and 46.67% for P-STAT3 and VEGF expression respectively). There was a statistical significance between the two group (p<0.05). MVD (microvessel density) in juvenile laryngeal papilloma and control group were 36.73±5.64 and 11.23±3.09 respectively, there was statistical significance between the two group(p<0.05). There was a significant correlation between P-STAT3,VEGF and CD34-MVD expression. Conclusion: The high expression of P-STAT3 is related with the recurrence of juvenile laryngeal papilloma. The over-expression of P-STAT3 protein might upgrade the VEGF expression level which can promote angiogenesis, so the juvenile laryngeal papilloma can grow rapidly. That's may be one of the pathogenesis of the juvenile laryngeal papilloma.
