Cirsium henryi (Franch.) Diels grows in the west area of Hubei province of China. The flowers of the plant have been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of many diseases. In our anti-tumor screening experiment, the EtOH extract of the flowers of Cirsium henryi (Franch.) Diels showed significant tumor inhibitory effects, which prompted us to initiate a chemical investigation of the EtOAc -soluble fraction of this plant. As a result, 16 compounds have been isolated from Cirsium henryi (Franch.) Diels and 14 of them are identified on the basis of the physical constants and spectroscopic analysis. The structures of them are 5, 7-dimethoxy-4′-hyoxy flavone (wwj-1), 5-methoxy-3, 7, 4′-trihydroxy flavone (wwj-2), 7-methoxy-3, 5, 4′-trihydroxy flavone (wwj-3), 4′-methoxy-3, 3′, 5, 7- tetrahydroxy flavone (wwj-4), taraxasterol acetate (wwj-5), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (wwj-6), 4′-methoxy-3, 5, 7-trihydroxy flavone (wwj-9), 7-dimethoxy-5, 4′-dihydroxy flavone (wwj-10),Ψ-taraxasterol (wwj-12), (taraxasterol)(wwj-13),β-sitoterol (wwj-14), daucosterol(wwj-15), octadecanoic acid (wwj-16), lignoceric acid (wwj-17). Among them, 13 compounds were isolated from the plant for the first time. The anti-oxidation screening experiments reveals that wwj-1,wwj-3, wj-4 have significant effects of clearing superoxide anion which have a further reserch of developing a natural antioxidational medicine. |
