| Objective: In recent researches, EPO has been proved to have many different non- hematopoietic biological effects. Each kind of brain cell has found EPO and its receptor(EPOR) , EPO may be one kind of neuro-protective factor. It has been shown that EPO exerted protective effect on brain injury,and its mechanisms include anti excitatory amino acids toxicity, anti cell apoptosis,anti-inflammatory,etc. In this research, we observed the concentration of serum EPO,IL-6,CRP in patients with acute cerebral infarction (ACI)in order to investigate the probable existence of neuroprotective effects and mechanism of endogenous EPO in the ACI and to provide evidences of the probability of the clinical application of EPO for curing ischemic cerebral vascular disease.Methods: To collect 64 patients (34 males and 30 females) at the department of neurology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of NuaHua University experienced infarcts that occurred within the first 5 days between March and October of 2007, and all the patients were diagnosed by CT or MRI. According to the largest diameter of the corss section of infarction, they were divided into three groups: small infarction group, medium infarction group, large infarction group. 35 persons (19 males and 16 females) were selected as normal control simutaneously. The statistical test of the general conditions of the groups was performed. There was no significant difference between the groups.The serum concentrations of EPO and IL-6 were measured by ELISA.And the serum concentration of CRP was measured by immuoturbidimetry. The chief statistical indexes were tested by the 13.0 SPSS soft, all measurement data were indicated with (±S).Results:1,The concentrations of serum EPO,IL-6 and CRP of cerebral infarction group(CI) were higher than those of normal control group ( P <0.01). According to the analysis of the bivariate correlation, there were negative correlations between EPO and IL-6 or CRP( r=-0.712, r=-0.643, P <0.01);and there was positive correlation between IL-6 and CRP(r=0.762, P <0.01). 2,The serum concentrations of EPO of the small CI were higher than those of the medium or the large one ( P <0.01),and the serum concentrations of EPO of the medium CI were higher than those of the large one ( P <0.05).While the serum concentrations of IL-6 and CRP of the large CI were higher than the medium or the small one ( P <0.01),.what is more, there was no significant difference of the serum concentrations of IL-6 or CRP between the small CI and the medium one The more larger the cerebral infarction size became , the more lower the concentrations of serum EPO became, while the more higher the serum concentrations of IL-6 and CRP became.3,There was no significant difference between CI group and the normal control one on the blood Hct.Conclusions:1,EPO probably has some certain neuroprotective effects in the ACI.2,One of the neuroprotective mechanisms of endogenous EPO in the ACI is probably to lighten the inflammatory reaction of the cerebral ischemic area. |
