Objective: It is proved by the overseas researchers that digit ratio shows differences in gender, race and region, which relates to the individual aggression behavior, physical education, musical talent, susceptivity of AIDS virus, myocardial infarction, breast carcinoma, quantity of sperm, schizophrenia and homosexuality, But few corresponding research was held in domestic. This study adopt direct measuring method to investigate and analyze the digit length and digit ratio in Dalian Han adult people to identify the distribution characteristics of the mean values of digit length in Dalian region and accumulate data of this study in our country.Methods: Under the permission of the objects, 430 healthy adult Han nation people (220 of male and 210 of female) were random selected from Dalian second People Hospital and authropometry methods were adopted to measure the length of 2nd to 5th digit of left and right hand (palmar aspect) and to calculate the ratio of length of different digits and compared with the difference of gender and region.Results:1. The length of digit: the mean values of length of 2nd to 5th digit of left and right hand (palmar aspect) of Dalian Han nation people were 71.1,71.0,79.0,78.8,73.7,73.6,59.0,59.0 in male and 66.9,67.0,73.8,73.8,68.5,68.7,54.7,54.8 in female. Compared with that of adults in Anshan district, Liaoning Han nation young people and Xinjiang Weiwuer nation younth, significant differences of digit length could be observed in both male anf female (P<0.05).2. The digit ratio: the values of 2D:3D,2D:4D,2D:5D,3D:4D,3D:5D,4D:5D of left and right side of Dalian Han nation people were 0.8995,0.9011,0.9650, 0.9659,1.2074,1.2063,1.0731,1.0722,1.3431,1.3394,1.2522,1.2499 in male and 0.9065,0.9079,0.9766,0.9753,1.2230,1.2226,1.0781,1.0754,1.3527,1.3502,1.2551,1.2558 in female. Both male and female presented the trend of 3D:5D>4D:5D>2D:5D>3D:4D>2D:4D> 2D:3D.3. The left and right difference: There were no significant left and right differences of the digit length and digit ratio between the same gender (P>0.05).4. The gender differences: There were significant gender differences of the digit length and digit ratio in the left and right hands (P<0.05).5. The percentage distribution of 2D:4D: The phenomenon of 2D<4D played dominative role in left and right hands in both gender, and the second largest percentage were 2D>4D,2D=4D were the smallest percentage. But the percentage of 2D>4D of female were significantly larger than that of male.6. The regional differences of 2D:4D: Both male and female Dalian Han nation people presented the low digit ratio, which were significantly lower than that of England,Liverpool, Hungary, Poland and Spain, but higher than that of other countries and nations.Conclusion: The digit length and digit ratio of Dalian Han nation people present unique characteristics. There are significant genderual differences. The 2D:4D shows obvious differences in different gender and regions.
