On Behavior Of Seeking Medical Help In The Tang Dynasty

Disease is the inherent natural phenomenon of organism,the birth and death are the problems which must be faced in each person's life. The question of disease and the medical treatment is not only a kind of individual phenomenon, but also a kind of complex of social event. The disease view and the way of seeking medical help which were influenced by different social political, economical, and cultural background have profound influence to the ancient society of China. But in the Tang Dynasty, influenced by the society medical service system, the medicine development level, the social culture view and a variety of social and medical forces, People's acts of treatment showed a larger difference which had a profound impact on all aspects of society in the Tang Dynasty.This paper will dissert the behavior of seeking medical help in the Tang Dynasty in five parts:The first part is"the introduction"which mainly introduces the origin of the topic selecting, the present researching situation of the medical problem in the Tang Dynasty, And the Source and the basic structure of the paper.The second part"the background of the system of seeking medical help behavior in the Tang Dynasty", which introduce the central and local Medical institutions established by the government and the Para-medical measures implemented by the Tang government. Although the medical services of the Tang Dynasty simply can not meet the medical needs of people, the concern showed on Medical help at the public services and the management on related matters by the government is Unprecedented.The third part"Treatment acts rely on Medical skills and drugs", through the research on the status of the professional doctors comes to the conclusion that those who see professional doctors mainly confined to the upper society in the Tang Dynasty, but common people can also have the Therapy such as"self-treatment"or"experienced treatment"rely on Prescription and drugs because of the promotion of government and some scholar-officials of Tang Dynasty.The fourth part"the treatment rely on Witchcraft and religion", mainly discuss the widespread behaviors of seeking treatment from doctor who have religion background as Buddhism, Taoism Or Witchcraft at all levels of society in Tang Dynasty. People have no doubt on the efficacy of belief treatment because of the weakness of local medical resources, the medical level and the limitation of knowledge. The participation of Buddhism, Taoism and Witchcraft on medical cause played an important role on the stress relief of the health care system. At the same time their therapy also helped most of the people to ease even to eliminate the suffering of disease. These all helped them to become the most important medical means in the Tang society.The fifth part"Concluding remarks"discusses the characteristics of behavior of Seeking medical help and their social impact.
