| OBJECTIVE:Recent reports have indicated the majority of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) complicated with obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).They are associated with hypertension, dyslipidemia and have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. However, few study has reported T2DM complicated with OSA syndrome and adrenocortical insufficiency. The author described a case of T2DM complicated with OSA syndrome and adrenocortical insufficiency, and the effect of the continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP) and hydrocortisone replacement therapy.CASE REPORT AND INTERVENTATION:A 57-year-old male patient presented to the hospital with adrenocortical insufficiency. Also, hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia and obstructive sleep apnea were found.Since he had hypoxia,he has been treated with CPAP as well as hydrocortisone replacement therapy for 2 years, which resulted in significant improvement.CONCLUSION:CPAP treatment is probably helpful for adrenocortical insufficiency in this patient. The relationship between T2DM complicated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and adrenocortical insufficiency requires futher investigation. |
