Aims.To investigate knowledge level and attitudes regarding pain management among nurses of Level 2 hospitals of Zhejiang Province and factors that might influence their knowledge and attitudes,as well as their educational needs.Method.Descriptive study was designed.A self-administered survey including demographics and nurses' knowledge and attitudes survey regarding pain-《Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain(KASRP》Chinese version was completed by 251 nurses working at 3 Level 2 hospitals of Zhejiang Province.Descriptive statistics, ANOVA and stepwise regression were used in the data analysis.Results.Among the 40 items assessed,the mean number of correctly answered items was 18.74±3.19,with a range of 8 to 26.The correct answer rate for the entire scale,on average,was46.84±7.96%,with a range of 20%to 65%.Results from stepwise regression showed that nurses with higher correct answer scores had attended more courses on pain education and read more journals,and with higher education level.Conclusions.The findings of this study,identifying problems of inadequate knowledge and inappropriate attitudes regarding pain management,are of concern. There were discrepancies between attitudes and practice in pain management.The results of this study could be useful to institutions involved in the education and application of patient pain management.
