| Objective: This retrospective study compared double-circle dermal bra technique of reduction mammaplasty with the inverted T scar inferior pedicle technique. The indications, operative skills and satisfaction of the patient are all analyzed. The reasons for and the prevention of complications are also discussed.Method: A retrospective review of 58 patients who have undergone one of these 2 operations between January 2000 and March 2008 was undertaken. Pre-operation, operation, and post-operation data were compared, every single breast was analyzed as an independent individual. There were 116 breasts analyzed, 76 breasts received reduction mammaplasty with dermal bra technique, while 40 breasts received inferior pedicle technique. The overall follow-up period was 1 year. Results: Average breast volume in inferior pedicle group was larger than that in dermal bra group. Hospitalization duration was the same in two groups, while the dermal bra group had higher average expense. The blood loss of dermal bra group was less than inferior pedicle group, but it was not statistically significant. The volume of glandular resection was less in dermal bra group, but not significant, either. The highest body temperature appeared in the first day after operation in both groups, and degraded in the following days. 15 cases of complications were presented(12.93%), including 9 cases in dermal bra group (11.84%) and 6 cases in inferior pedicle group (15.00%). The dermal bra group got a higher score on the satisfaction of symptom, body shape, scar and nipple sensitivity (unsatisfactory rate 0%, satisfactory rate 92.59%, very satisfactory rate 7.14%). The inferior pedicle group got a lower score (unsatisfactory rate 12.5%, satisfactory rate 87.5%, very satisfactory rate 0%).Conclusion: Both the dermal bra and inferior pedicle techniques could be reliable for reduction mammaplasty. There was no statistically significant difference on complications between these two groups. The design of inferior pedicle technique should be more convenient, while dermal group could get a higher satisfaction rate. |
