Objective Urinary retention is one of the common complications after hemorrhoid operation, and hemorrhoids is clinically one of the most common diseases, therefore, how to prevent and resolve this postoperative urinary retention has become a big concern in clinical work. This study was designed to evaluate the clinical effect of treating post-hemorrhoids-operation urinary retention by disposable electrode paste combined with electrical stimulation and to explore its treatment mechanism so as to enrich means and methods of treatment for urinary retention after hemorrhoid and to provide a simple, safe and effective treatment method.Method According to diagnostic criteria, inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria of this study,62 cases were chosen and were randomly divided into two groups under the ratio of 1:1,which were named the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group were treated by disposable electrode paste combined with electrical stimulation.Guanyuan,Zhongji, Zusanli of both sides,Sanyinjiao of both sides were selected. The disposable electrode pastes were fixed on the above acupoints and density-wave was chosen. The treatment lasted for 30 minutes;the control group were treated by the conventional methods of heating the bladder area and inducing voiding of urine. Voiding or catheterization time and voiding rates of different time periods of patients in two groups were collected to set up a data and statistical software SPSS17.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results All 62 cases in this study completed their treatment.Pre-treatment information of patients in two groups including gender, age, mental status, vital signs, operation time,pre-treatment symptoms and signs were compared and the difference had no statistical significance(P>0.05),suggesting that the two groups were comparable before the treatment. The voiding of the two groups after treatment were compared:(1) the number of voiding cases were compared. For the experimental group,24 cases were markedly effective with seven cases being invalid while for the control group,9 cases were markedly effective with 22 cases being invalid, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);(2) voiding rate in different time periods of patients in both groups were compared:The voiding rate of the experimental group within 8h after the operation was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.01),the difference was statistically significant. The voiding rate within 4h,within 6h and after 8h compared with the control group, there was no significant difference(P>0.05).The results suggest that disposable electrode paste combined with electrical stimulation for treating post-hemorrhoids-operation urinary retention is clinically effective. Conclusion Disposable electrode paste combined with electrical stimulation for treating post-hemorrhoids-operation urinary retention is clinically effective. This method can help promote urination, reduce the rate of catheterization and improve the quality of life for patients who receive hemorrhoids operation. No significant side effects were detected, therefore, it is a simple, economic, safe and effective treatment method and its clinical application should be promoted.
