Objective: This thesis discusses the necessity, applicability and significance for the case that whether the course (Adolescent Development and Health, ADH) should be adapted to China's nursing curriculum system. The consequence is that nursing educational curriculum can be improved, as well as to provide suitable instrument for personnel who do adolescent training.Methods: 1. The course module of Adolescent Development and Health published by Hong Kong Polytechnic University are translated and calibrated. This course consists of three modes. Module 1 is called Adolescent Growth and Development. Its background is the family and community. It relates the factors concerning with the biological, physical, cognitive, moral and social aspects for adolescence in their development at all stages, as well as the influence and significance for the development of adolescence, which is the basic knowledge for adolescence health experts. Module 2 is called Assessment and Planning for Adolescent Health—A Public Health Approach:It relates the numerous factors which influence the health and development of adolescence (culture, society-economy, family and community , etc.), as well as epidemiology concerning with adolescent health and public health approach which can promote the health and development of adolescence. Module 3 is named Communication and Counselling in Working with Adolescent and their Families. It gives an account of the fundamentals about how to improve the skills to communicate and advise, especially the knowledge which is quite needed when health expert communicated with adolescence and their family. 2. The teaching practice is carried on through classes and Shandong University election-course number is applied for. Students who have chosen this course are all freshmen from different schools in Shandong University. The teachers in Nursing School are designed for the teaching and test. 3. The Evaluation of the Interview: The qualitative research design is adopted. We will interview 25 qualified persons face to face or by phone and learn their own options to ADH course. The interview is recorded or written down. The written or recorded content are furtherly analyzed.Results: Through the evaluation and analyze of the interview content, two topics are found. The first topic: Teaching of ADH course is urgent. Adolescence and their family are deficient in the knowledge about the health and development for adolescence. Adolescence's ability to cope with their own health problems is seriously weak. Our country is lacking in the professional personnel who do adolescent health work. Nowadays health worker's ability to solve the health problem of adolescence is quite limited. The educational raising is seriously insufficient. The second topic: the ADH course should be improved. The content and focus of teaching should be adjusted concerning the aspects such as case study and the method of intervention so as to make it accustomed with Chinese culture context.Conclusion: Nowadays, it is quite necessary to adopt the ADH to our current nursing course system. The total design of this course is suitable for China. But some certain concrete teaching content and method should be further improved. It should be noted that the cultural appropriateness and professional adjustment must be carried on.
