Objective To scan the position of the normal tissue, the tumor tissue, and the margin of tumor tissue by OCT and endoscopic ultrasonography . Then we take the pathology of the tissue as the standard to compare the differences among the results. Accordingly, we can also estimate the meaning of the OCT and endoscopic ultrasonography e in the diagnosis of the digestive tumor. Methods We analyzed 43 patients who came from the second affiliated hospital of Shandong university from August 1, 2007 to May 4, 2008 with such tumors. We scaned the position of normal tissue, the tumor tissue, and the margin of tumor tissue by OCT and endoscopic ultrasonography. By comparing the images between the normal and pathological tissues, the two different penetrating thicknesses, the layer of the image and the limit of the tumors, we estimate the application and perspective of the OCT and endoscopic ultrasonography in the diagnosis of the digestive tumor.Result The penetration depths of the OCT and endoscopic ultrasonography are 2mm and 1cm separately. The endoscopic ultrasonography has a better penetration depth. OCT can display 4 layers, while the endoscopic ultrasonography can display 3 layers. The OCT has a better display in the tissue lamination especially the mucous layer. Furthermore, OCT can give a more accurate borderline of the tumor than the endoscopic ultrasonography. Conclusions 1. The endoscopic ultrasonography has a better penetration depth than the OCT. 2. Comparing with the endoscopic ultrasonography, the OCT has a better display in the tissue lamination especially the mucous layer. 3. OCT can give a more accurate borderline of the tumor than the endoscopic ultrasonography.
