Objective:To study the characterization and the correlation factors of hearing loss in aged type 2 diabetics. Methods:From February 2005 to October 2007 in Qilu hospital,118 aged type 2 diabetics and 50 nondiabetics as control were enrolled in this study. All patients have none significant other diseases.Pure-tone audiometry, otoacoustic emissions(OAE)and auditory brainstem responses(ABR)were measured, compare the results in the two groups. And study the risk factors of hearing impairment in diabetes by logistic regressive analysis.Results:(1)Pure-tone audiometry:there were greater deficits at all frequencies in the diabetes group(P<0.05),and a strong tendency for diabetics to affect the right ear more than the left(P<0.05).(2)OAE test:the amplitudes of OAE in diabetics decreased compared with the control group, and a strong tendency for diabetics to affect the right ear(P<0.05).(3)ABR test:the latencies of wavesⅢ,Ⅴ,interwaveⅠ-Ⅲof 40dB above auditory threshold were longer in diabetics(P<0.05),and there was no statistical significance between the left ear and the right(P>0.05).(4)Logistic regressive analysis showed that the independent risk factors associated with hearing loss of the aged type 2 diabetics were age, course of the T2DM,LDL-C,diabetic nephropathy and diabetic retinopathy.Conclusions:(1)The hearing impairment in aged type 2 diabetics was significant at all frequencies, especially at high frequency.(2)Pure-tone audiometry and OAE test showed:there was a strong tendency to affect the right ear as compared to the left ear in diabetes group,it may because the right cochlea was impared more heavily compare to the left one.(3)Logistic regressive analysis showed that age, course of the T2DM,LDL-C, diabetic micrangium complications were the risk factors.
