Objective:To investigate the correlation of expression of eIF4E and bFGF in cervical cancer and cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia, explore the changing characteristics of eIF4E and bFGF in cervical cancer with different clinical or pathologic grade or tissual classification, and provide experimental basis for the diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer and CIN.Methods:30 cases of CIN(10 cases of CINⅠor CINⅡor CINⅢ) and 60 cases of cerical cancer with complete pathologic and clinical follow-up data were selected in our experiment.30 cases of normal cerical were used as the contorl. All cases were confirmed by pathology. Imunohistochemistry of SP was used to study the expression of eIF4E as well as bFGF followed by observation under light microscopy and statistical analysis of the data.Results:1.There was no apparent expression of eIF4E in normal cervical and CINⅠ,and weak expression was detected in CINⅡwith the positive rate of 30 percent, and low expression in CINⅢwith the positive rate of 70 percent and the strong positive rate of 10 per cent. There appeared strong expression with positive rate of 100 percent in either squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma of the cervical epithelium. As well, there was no obvious expression of bFGF in the normal cervical. And weak expression was detected in CINⅠor CINⅡand with positive rates of 20 percent,30 percent respectively. And there were stronger positive rate of 70 per cent in CINⅢ.And there was strong expression in either squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma of the cervical epithelium both with positive rate of 100 percent.2.The relationship of eIF4E and bFGF in cervical cancer with different clinical or pathologic grade or tissual classification:Different expression of eIF4E or bFGF was detected in cervical cancer due to different stages. There was stronger expressionin in stageⅡthan stageⅠ,and stronger expressionin in stageⅢ-Ⅳthan in stageⅠ,Ⅱ,P<0.05.But there was no significant difference between eIF4E and bFGF in the same clinical stage of samples,P>0.05.In the lower degree of differentiation of cervical cancer, there was stronger expressionof both eIF4E and bFGF with stronger expression in poorly differentiated group than in well-differentiated group,P<0.05;as well,no significant difference was found between eIF4E and bFGF in cervical samples of same differentiation,P>0.05.There was appeared strong staining in either squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma,of the cervical epithelium,P>0.05.And there was no significant difference between bFGF and eIF4E in the same samples,P>0.05.3.The expression of eIF4E and bFGF in cervical cancer cases are positively correlated,r=0.843,P<0.05.Conclusions:1.There is an expression of EIF4E in CIN and cervical cancer however no expression in normal cervical tissue, that shows a increasing tendence from CIN to cervical cancer.2.EIF4E may trigger the expression of bFGF and bFGF may promote the expression of eIF4E in cervical cancer cells, that suggests their related roles in the occurence and progress of cervical cancer.
