Objectives: To investigate the job satisfaction and mental health status, and to study relationships between job satisfaction and sex, age, marital status, education, emission work years, earning,coping style, mental health status, respectively, so as to improve work efficiency and life quality for emission staff.Methods: By using cluster sampling, 620 emission staff were tested by Job Satisfaction Scale, SCL-90 Self-test Symptoms and Scale for Coping Style in emission institutions directly under the provincial party committee. Data were analyzed with SPSS 11.5 on basis of building SPSS database.Results: 1. The job satisfaction of male emission staff was higher than that of the female. Compared to the other work years, job satisfaction of staff with 6-10 work years was higher. In the present study staff with master degree and above educational backgroud had more job statisfaction for future than those with lower educational backgroud. Staff with bachelor degree had less job statisfaction. So as to the unmarried staff, married people expressed higher job satisfaction. The job satisfaction of emission staff whose earning was less than 1000RMB per month was relative lower.2. The psychological health of male and female emission staff were worse than that of the normal male and female, and compared to the female, male emission staff had worse psychological health. Emission staff of different ages had more psychological problems than those of the corresponding ages, especially of age above 30. Married staff were less statisfied than unmarried staff. There was obvious difference in staff with different work years, as well as the subjective symptoms; psychological problem in staff with college and less academic background was more prominent than those with higher academic background.3. Male staff and emission satff with shorter work years both showed more positive coping, while staff with college academic background were more negative coping to the stress event.4. Main factors associated with the job satisfaction in emission staff were sex, marital status, educational background, emission work years, mental health status and positive coping style.Conclusions: 1. Male emission staff are more satisfied than the female; job satisfaction of staff with 6-10 work years is more higher; The job satisfaction of emission staff whose earning is less than 1000RMB per month is relative lower.2. The mental health status of emission staff is worse than that of general people; 3. Main factors associated with the job satisfaction in emission staff are sex, marital status, educational background, emission work years, earning, mental health status and positive coping style.
