Background and ObjectiveKnee Osteoarthritis is a degeneration of cartilage in joints and the surrounding bone hyperplasia of the pathological features of chronic progressive arthropathy disease. ccording to the etiology and pathogenesis ,KOA can belongs to the category of "Arthralgia syndrome" , "Arthralgia syndrome of bone" " Knee arthralgia syndrome " , "Wei (atrophy) syndromes" or "Arthralgia and Wei (atrophy) syndromes" , KOA is considered that it has mainly relation with the insufficiency of liver,deficiency of kidney deficiency and blood stasis. In recent years, the treatment with Chinese or Western medicine in treating osteoarthritis is to a certain extent. However, no breakthrough has been made. Among the above sixty years old people,50 percent of crowd's X ray plate show osteoarthritis' reflect, of which 35 percent to 50 percent people show clinical manifestation , and Amond the above seventy-five years old people, 80 percent people exists the symptoms of osteoarthritis, which acutely influence the health and quality of life of the people.The course of knee joint osteoarthritis is very long, which of pathogenetic condition is repeated relapse. Curative chronicity, the common therapeutic efficacy in modern medicine at present, numerous side effect, expensive cost lead to the enormous burden of consciousness and economy. OA is recognized bone disease research problems, and lack of good clinical treatments. Finding effective treatments of osteoarthritis has become an important and urgent task. This study is to find a new and taditional method for the knee osteoarthritis. The research objective is to investigate the clinical curative effect about the oral administration of fomented medicated salt tied with Bushen herb in the treatment of knee joint osteoarthritis, by observing the change of patient in clinical symptom and physical sign and analyzing clinical curative effect, and to seek for a safe and valid program for it.Methods62 patients with KOA which are from the GD TCM Hospital from October 2007 to April 2008 during the early in this study are randomly assigned to two groups, the treatment group of 30 patients, the control group of 32 patients, the treatment group is treated with fomented medicated salt tied with Bushen medicine ; Control group is treated with puli capsule (Glucosamine Hydrochloride) (Provited with Zhongyuanwei medicine Co, Ltd) each 240mg, three times a day and Celebrex (Provited with Pfizer Inc) each 200mg, once a day . In the two groups before treatment, after treatment, after two and 8 weeks, and then compare the HSS score of two groups. All data uses SPSS13. 0 software for statistical analysis.ResultsHSS score before treatment, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). After 4 weeks , the difference was not statistically significant (P> 0.05). After 8 weeks, the treatment group is better than the control group. Difference in the two groups is statistically significant (P>0.01). To evaluate joint pain, the joint function, the comprehensive curative effect, and adverse effects etc of these patientsConclusionFomented medicated salt tied with Bushen herb treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee is sure. This method is superior to the Puli and Celebrex capsule in treating knee joint osteoarthritis .The effect of using Fomented medicated salt tied with Bushen herb to treat knee joint osteoarthritis is to relieve clinical symptom and improve joint fuction obviously.
