| Objective To investigate the clinical character of the patients with epilepsy and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome(OSAHS), and the reciprocal influence between Epilepsy and OSAHS. Attempt to find out the new way to cure patient in epilepsy. Methods The patients with essential epilepsy were selected randomly from July 2006 to March 2008 to do 16-lead electroencephalogram (EEG) and video- polysomnography (PSG), divided into epilepsy patients with OSAHS group and epilepsy patients without OSAHS group. Compared with the two groups, recorded the general clinical material (age, body height, body mass, course of disease and ESS scores), seizure situation (frequency of seizures, common time, type) and the index of EEG and PSG, then compared with the clinical character and supervise outcome of the two groups, disposed all data by statistics method. Results 34 patients were selected, 14 epilepsy patients with OSAHS and 20 epilepsy patients without OSAHS. The two groups were similar in age, body height, body mass and course of disease(P>0.05). Patients in two groups had significant different ESS scores and frequency of epilepsy seizures (P<0.05). Epilepsy seizures in the epilepsy patients with OSAHS group happened more common at night, and the proportion of partial seizures(6/14)was higher than patients without OSAHS group(4/20). PSG showed that there was no significant difference in sleep efficiency, total sleep time, sleep latency, stage 1-4 time, REM latency and time (P>0.05); while Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI), average apnea time, average and lowest Pulse Oxygen Saturation(SpO2) had significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion Epilepsy and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) often coexist, and OSAHS happened more common in patients of night and partial seizures; OSAHS can aggravate the epilepsy attack. |
