Objective:To describe the provision state of the feasible medical care and family planning services in rural areas of the two pilot counties in Hunan Province, and to evaluate the level of patient satisfaction with such services and the performance of such services. Methods:A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 390 patients who received the feasible medical care of western medicine, traditional medicine and family planning services from March 1st,2005 to July 31th, 2006 in rural areas of the two pilot counties using a self-report satisfaction questionnaire.Statistical description was used to demonstrate the level of patient satisfaction,χ2 test and logistic regression model was performed to estimate the determinants of patient satisfaction.Cronbach's Alphas were computed to analyze the internal consistence of the questionnaire. Also,TOPSIS method was conducted to comprehensively evaluate the performance on the application of 30 feasible medical care and family planning services. All the analyzes were conducted by SPSS13.0 statistical software, and the level of test was set atα=0.05.Results:From March 1st,2005 to July 31th,2006,31 feasible medical care and family planning services were trained and applied.2570 person-times took part in the training of the feasible medical care and family planning services, and 47649 person-times were cured by such services. The rates of the services trained and applied were both 100%in the health care settings in the level of counties, more than 80%and 50% respectively in towns, more than 60%and 40%respectively in villages. The rates of patient satisfaction varied from 72.5%to 96.4%among various items, and the total satisfaction rate was 72.8%.The level of patient satisfaction with the exposed therapy and moist exposed bum ointment for the bum cases ranked first.Patient satisfaction associated with patients' educational level, health status and payment styles. The questionnaire with 0.82 of Cronbach's Alpha for total items showed a high level of internal consistence.TOPSIS results showed that the performance of application on western medicine was the best, while traditional medicine performed worst. The application performance of the feasible medical care and family planning services in Yueyang County was better than that in Chaling County.Conclusion:1.Patients were highly satisfied with the effectiveness and cost of the feasible medical care and family planning services, and the total satisfaction rate was 72.8%.The level of patient satisfaction with the exposed therapy and moist exposed bum ointment for the burn cases ranked the first. The determinants of patient satisfaction were patients' educational level, health status and payment styles.2.The performance of the Western medicine services ranked the best position among the three categories of the services, while traditional medicine worst. The performance of the feasible medical care and family planning services in Yueyang County performed better than that in Chaling County.3.The patient satisfaction questionnaire showed a high internal consistence in this study.
