Applying NLP Training In Clinical Communication Skills For Undergraduate Practice Nursing Students Development

Objectives In base of theories teaching in the Interpersonal Communication, Carrying on NLP training to the nursing undergraduate trainee, investigating the result. Then inducing a set of viable teaching experience and teaching method for undergraduate practice nursing students development, in order to providing basis for Interpersonal Communication education of nursing students.Methods The study is an Interventional experiment. Choose 163 undergraduates practice nursing students which 2007 July get into The First Clinical Medical College of Shanxi Medical University by convenience as subjects studied. Appling the principle simplicity random to draw out 60 students from 163 students. These students were divided into the test group and the control group by randomization. After carrying on 10 hours learning of theories teaching in the Interpersonal Communication, The students enrolled in the control group adopts in routinely practice ,the students enrolled in the test group brought into NLP training on the base of routinely practice. Before the intervention, the two group students were respectively measured by the questionnaire of the nursing students' clinical communication skills, after the intervention, the two group students were respectively measured by the questionnaire of the undergraduates nursing students' clinical communication ability and the questionnaire of the evaluation of nurse-patient communication ability.Results (1) )Undergraduate nursing students' communication skill ability: the test group students better than the control group in establishing harmoniously relationship, validating feeling, subtly listening, taking part in self-care and effectively transferring information. (t values were 2.865,0.113,2.837,2.688,2.334,P<0.05) However, there had no distinguished differences between two group students in identifying the patients' problems and encouraging patients(t values was 1.689,P>0.05. The test group students have a dissimilarity cent before and after the NLP training(P=0.001), showed statistical significance. The control group students'clinical communication showed no statistical significance regardless before or after the NLP training(P>0.05)(2) Undergraduate practiced nursing students on nurse-patient communication ability: the test group students better than the control group in initiate the communication, gather information, share information, licit and understand the patient's perspective, close the interview, (t values were 3.848,3.157,3.150,2.513,2.261,P<0.05). However, there had no distinguished differences between two group students in prepare for the interview (t values was 1.959,P>0.05).Conclusion NLP training can effectively improve the clinical communication skills for undergraduate practice nursing students.
