Purpose: To explore the effect and mechanism of rehabilitation of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine on comprehensive function in patients of stroke.Materials and Methods: 79 patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic cerebral stroke at recovery stage were divided into two groups: the treating group and the control group. Patients in the two groups were given the routine internal medicine treatment and rehabilitation. The patients in the treating group were given rehabilitation of the optimum program of the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The patients in the control group were given rehabilitation of western medicine. The evaluation was done at the beginning and end of the treatment with the Fugl-Meyer Assessment ( FMA), the Barthel index of ADL and the NIHSS.Results(1) Comparisons between the two groups found no significant difference in age,sex and stroke type. The evaluation scores demonstrated that there wasn't significant difference between the two groups at the beginning.(2) After the rehabilitation treatment ,the motor function outcome, the Barthel index of ADL and the score of NIHSS of the patients in the two groups were changed obviously. The score of FMA, BI and NIHSS in the treating group improved more obviously than the control group after the treatment. After the rehabilitation ,the distribution of the impairments among the patients changed obviously between the two groups. In the two groups, the distribution of the impairments also changed obviously. But in the beginning, there were no difference between them.Conclusion(1) The integrated rehabilitation of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine can significantly improve the comprehensive function in patients during the convalescent stage of ischemic and hemorrhagic cerebral stroke.(2) The integrated rehabilitation of traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine is better than the rehabilitation of western medicine, also better than the traditional Chinese Medicine.
