A Randomized Controlled Trial On Acupuncture For Chronic Neckpain

Objectives:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture treatmennt for chronic neckpain through clinical observation, provide scientific evidence to make acupuncture treatment to be the general basic treatment for chronic neckpain, and provide new ideas and methods for the other related clinical trials on acupuncture.Methods:This is a single-blinded, randomized, matched controlled trial. A total of 60 cases, according to the diagnosis criteria, were randomly divided into the treatment group (30 cases receiving acupuncture treatment) and the control group (30 cases receiving placebo acupuncture ). The course of treatment is 3 weeks. The curative effect was evaluated by the Northwick Park neckpain scale (NPQ) and the visual analog pain scale(VAS) at 3 different times (before treatment, after treatment and one month after treatment) .Results:Evaluated by the NPQ neckpain scale and the VAS scale, there were significant differences in the treatment group between pretherapy, post-treatment and one month after treatment, while there were no in the control group. And there were significant differences between the treatment group and the control group after the treatment. One month after the treatment, evaluated by the VAS pain scale, there were significant differences between the two groups,, while evaluated by the NPQ neckpain scale, there were no significant differences. In this trial we didn' t find any adverse effects or serious untoward reactions.Conclusion:This trial bore out the curative effect of acupuncture treatment for chronic neckpain, and the effect was obvious. And this curative effect may last a long time, which suggested that it need further research to investigate the long-term curative effect. This trial aslo showed acupuncture treatment for chronic neckpain was safe.
