Object To determine the prevalence and factors associated with diabetic retinopathy of the Uygur farmers in Turpan, Xinjiang. Research design and Method Cross-sectional sample survey of the overall population prevalence of type 2 diabetes in Turpan, Xinjiang. Screening out above the age of 20 years old, demographic information, medical information and blood tests of the data integrity of the Uygur farmers diabetic patients studied. Object will be selected in accordance with and without diabetic retinopathy were divided into two groups, and analyses the factors associated with diabetic retinopathy. Result 1) the Turpan region Uygur farmers diabetic retinopathy in patients with diabetes prevalence rate of 24.6% (85 cases), patients with newly diagnosed diabetic retinopathy prevalence rate of 6.9% (24 cases); 2)using univariate analyses,our study demonstrated that no statistically significant association was observed between diabetic retinopathy and sex(P = 0.238), age (P = 0.966), body mass index (P = 0.093), waist-hip ratio (P = 0.797), systolic blood pressure (P = 0.195 ), diastolic blood pressure (P = 0.084), total cholesterol (P = 0.947), triglycerides (P = 0.792) and high-density cholesterol ester protein (P = 0.148), low-density cholesterol ester protein (P = 0.605), serum creatinine (P = 0.278), blood urea nitrogen (P = 0.285), smoking history (P = 0.505), history of alcohol (P = 0.605); fasting blood glucose (P = 0.007 ), glycosylated hemoglobin (P = 0.000)and diabetic nephropathy (P = 000)was marginally significantly associated with retinopathy. logistic regression ivariate analyses revealed that glycosylated hemoglobin and diabetic nephropathy is independed of diabetic retinopathy risk factors. Conclusion This is the first study of diabetic retinopathy prevalence and releated factors of Uygur farmers. Strengthen the monitoring of diabetic retinopathy, early diagnosis and early treatment can prevent or reduce the occurrence of diabetic retinopathy, slowing its progress and improve the quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus...
