Objective To summarize the clinical features of 58 cases of GIST of our hospital over a period of recent 6 years. To analyze the prognostic factors and find some clues for prevention and treatment of GIST in future. Methods The data of 58 hospital patients with GIST in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from 2002.2 to 2007.4 were reviewed, Several factors which affect the prognosis of GIST are analyzed by Cox regression analysis, such as the location, size, modus operandi, mucosal infiltrate, muscular tunic infiltrate. Results The overall 58 patients accepted the treatment of operation.single factor survival analysis showed that the location, size, and modus operandi were all significant prognostic factors; the mucosal infiltrate and muscular tunic infiltrate were not significant prognostic factors(P < 0. 05).the tumor size was confirmed to be the independent prognostic factor by multi-variate analyses (P < 0. 05).Conclusion the tumor size was confirmed to be the independent prognostic factor. The most frequent metastatic organs are liver and peritoneum.
