Clinical And Epidemic Observation On 71 Patients With Meningococcal Meningitis Of A Hospital In Hefei

Objective:To study the clinical and epidemic manifestation on 71 patients with meningococcal meningitis in Hefei ;To study antimicrobial susceptibility test against Neisseria meningitides and select the antibiotics suited for this area.Methods:A clinical observation and retrospective analysis were conducted in 71 patients with meningococcal meningitis of a hospital in Hefei area.Results:There were sporadic cases of meningococcal meningitis occurred from 2004 to 2007.Most cases occurred from January to May.Age of onset was mainly above 10 years, accounting for 71.8%.The frequency rate of common type was 88.7% and fulminan type was 11.3% presently.The positive rate of bacteriological examination was 40.8%.Neisseria meningitides is sensitive to Penicillin and Ceftriaxone, whereas resistantbasicly to Sulfa.Conclusion: (1) .The current meningococcal meningitis mainly sporadically occurred in Hefei.(2) .A large majority of cases occurred in population above 10 years old.(3) .Most cases occurred between January and May every year.(4) .The common type is main clinical type.(5) .Ceftriaxone or penicillin should be still preferred firstly, and we may be use rifampin as a substitute for sulfa to prevent meningococcal meningitis.
