Pelvic fracture is a kind of extraordinary severe trauma mostly caused by high-energy injuries including road accident, fall from a height, and heavy crash and so on. It is often accompanied with rest regional injuries, massive haemorrhage and shock, with a high mortality and disability rate. So it has been the most important cause for youth and postadolescent's casualty by accident. In company with the development of modernization constructive, the number of motor vehicle snowballing while large machinery and equipment are widely applied. We can see row upon row of construction site anywhere. All we feel expedited life rhythm, increased labor intensity, and aggravated life pressure. Though different kinds of correlation labor protection system still imperfectly and consciousness of traffic regulations are not strong, thereof injuries by accident has gradually increased. It was a quite worthy clinical problem to know character of pelvic fractures, improve prevention and cure level of pelvic fractures and decrease mortality and disability rate.Clinical epidemiological analysis was a kind of tried and true scientific research means in general use of varied discipline, It's helpful to look into character of disease's occur, extend and result, learn sickness genetic risk factors, elements impacting cure result and prognostic. We can acquaint with inherent law of sickness, provide quickly precise diagnose and timely virtual cure with the guide of clinical epidemiology. Since the foundation of international clinic epidemiology network (ICEN) in early 1980s, clinic epidemiology was widely used in different fields. In recent years, doctors in America, Germany, Britain, Canada, Israel and so on had made research on pelvic fractures with epidemiology means. Most of those studies in developed countries focus on occupants of motor vehicle, whereas motorist, goer, cyclist and patients fall from a height were seldom involved. There were still lots of problems waiting for study. What relative to abroad, clinic epidemiology made great advancement too in our country. More and more domestic scholastic think much of trauma epidemiology. Whereas epidemiology about pelvic fractures was rarely touch on. It is desiderate wrought to study pelvic fractures with clinic epidemiological means, made conclusion conformed with the situation of our own country and supervise the clinic. The clinical data of the 223 patients with pelvic fractures from June 2001 to November 2006 were collected retrospectively. Their sex, age, cause, associated injury, prognosis were analyzed with SPSS for windows 11. 0. The age range of the 137 male and 86 female patients was 3 to 93 years(mean 33.4 years). The injury was caused by a road accident in 156 patients(70.0ï¼…), by a fall from a height in 48 (21.5ï¼…), and by a heavy crash in 11 patients. 85 patients were carried to our hospital directly while 138 patients were transferred from other hospitals. By Tile's classification of pelvic fractures, 48.9ï¼…of the cases were type A, 23.8ï¼…type B and 27.4ï¼…type C. Of the 223 patients, 89.7ï¼…suffered associated injuries which involved all over the body. According to AIS 2005, 56 patients had associated trauma in 1 region, 71 had 2 regions associated trauma, 46 had 3, 38 had 4, also there were 6 patients who suffered associated trauma in 5 regions and 1 patients had associated trauma in 6 regions. The common associated traumas included lone bone fracture at limbs, organ injury in the hypogastric zone and perineum, fracture of rib and pulmonary contusion, craniocerebral trauma and fracture of skull, spinal injury and skin destruction. The patients were admitted to almost 20 different departments including department of trauma orthopedic(51.1ï¼…). Shock occurred in 26 patients. ORIF of pelvis was done for 31 patients. The total mortality was 1.3ï¼…(3/223).Pelvic fractures are mostly caused by high-energy injuries, often in young and middle-aged males. The incidence of shock and associated trauma to head, chest, abdomen, limb and spine is high. It is difficult for small hospitals to treat unstable fractures of pelvis. Emergency trauma care training and safety education may be helpful in reducing the mortality and invalidity. Close cooperation among different departments is considerably important.
