Objective: To study the relationship between the expression of TSP-1, VEGF and the metastasis and prognosis of human pancreatic cancer. Methods: The expression and morphological distribution of TSP-1 and VEGF were investigated in 74 pancreatic cancers and 16 normal pancreas and chronic pancreatitis by using immunohistochemistry. The datas were analyzed by using SPSS 11.0. Results:①There is significant difference between expressions of TSP-1 and VEGF in pancreatic cancer tissues and normal pancreas, chronic pancreatitis tissues.②By usingχ~2 test, the expression of TSP-1 was positively correlated with size of tumor, lymph node metastasis, neural invasion and stage of tumor. and was also associated with lymphatic invasion; And the expression of VEGF was correlated with lymph node metastasis and neural invasion.③By using Logistic regression analyze, stage of tumor and neural invasion were related to TSP-1 positive; Lymph node metastasis and neural invasion were related to VEGF positive.④Univariate analysis using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test showed a relationship between expression of TSP-1, VEGF, lymph node metastasis, neural invasion, stage of tumor and patient survival.⑤Multivariate analysis using the Cox proportional hazard model demonstrated that the significant independent prognostic parameters for survival were neural invasion, lymph node metastasis. TSP-1 and VEGF expression were not independent prognostic parameters on this analysis.⑥By using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test, the patients with TSP-1/VEGF positive have poor prognosis. Conclusion: Expression of TSP-1 and VEGF related to the metastasis and prognosis of human pancreatic cancer, it is useful to deduce the prognosis of pancreatic cancer cases by analyzing the expression of TSP-1 and VEGF.
